Columbus Day Parade, New York City, United States

12 Oct 2009
The Columbus Day Parade has been a tradition in New York since 1929 and is great event. The parade honours the hard work and sacrifices that were made by all nationalities that helped to build America.  The friendship between Italy and the USA, as well as the mutual respect and cooperation between the two countries, is particularly celebrated. Each year political leaders, along with Broadway performers, champion high schools and college bands, international folkloric groups and Italian delegations from various regions come together and contribute to the parade with colourful costumes, music and floats marching along Fifth Avenue. It is a very patriotic event and is broadcasted live by WNBC in the states and on RAI International in Italy.

Columbus Day is always held on the second Sunday in October and is a federal holiday.
